work stories

so work has been good, a little aggravating, but all together funny!

last thursday, one of my fav kids from last year poured a bucket full of sand down my britches on the playground. i had bent down to tie another kids shoes and .... sand was everywhere, i mean everywhere!

today, one of my kids father came to pick her up. he signed her out, talked to her, asked how her day was, got her diaper bag, etc...then he left...without his child. the dude totally forgot about her. i was laughing too hard to do anything about it. i just stood there rolling and finally another teacher realized what had happened. she took the girl to her father who was almost out the front door. he was clueless!

my name is tetta or ca, depending on which kids you ask, not jessica.

christmas in senegal

mom and i are going to senegal for 2 weeks at christmastime. let me know if you want to go with us...soon. be praying!

" i went skydiving..."

for my mom's birthday....we went skydiving!!! so now i can sing the tim mcgraw song with a little more personal meaning! it rocked!

i didn't get nervous until all the other people were dropping out of that plane like flies...that's when i warned the dude that i was attached to that i just knew i was going to pee on him. (i didn't though) it was crazy. i laughed the entire way down. i couldn't figure out if it was real or not. i thought me and the dude were dreaming. but for sure, we freefalled for about a minute at 120 mph. started out about 2.5 miles in the air. gorgeous view! i felt like a bird.

i would do it again in a heartbeat. and ya'll should go! i will put some pics of it up later.

ivan

well i guess i shouldn't be happy that classes and work were cancelled due to the hurricane, but...i have to be honest and say that i did indeed enjoy the time away from school and such. i spent about 14 hours at the nursing home with mom on thursday. i fed and entertained residents for the day. most of them were getting extremely frustrated and could not understand why they had to spend the morning in the hallway...in all they were a hoot though.

as mom and i were driving around the area on friday...we were pretending to be the governor as he evaulates all the damage...we drove over a "fur ball" as i called it, but mom insisted it was a live kitten, so we turned around to see. sure enough, it was a tiny kitten, about the size of my hand. mom took it to my cousins house to get checked on and then took it home. it's name is...ivan, go figure! by the way, i am not a big cat person....not at all.

pics from senegal

so classes have started back up. both school and work are going well. such a different life here compared to my days in senegal. i am constantly reminded of that by the little things.

i have enjoyed so much sharing with ya'll about what God is doing in Senegal and hope to get to share more in the future. for now, i hope that you will continually pray for the Lebou people.

i talk with my senegalese friends in nj once or twice a week...it is much more difficult speaking wolof on the telephone than in person. but it is so nice to be able to stay in touch with them, i hope to go visit with them soon. pray for them as i share Christ's love.

so i have posted some pictures below from the summer. enjoy!

the fish market:
don't even begin to think that i over exaggerated in my description of the fish market. this pic does not even show the half of it. just notice the scales all over this ladies arms...somehow it ends up all over you!

an afternoon with awa & the ladies on the beach:
lots of laughs, because on the beach i continually repeat :
"du ma toubab"..."i am not a white person"!

bubbles with papa, manjoan, and dabba:
in the front is papa, who was so sick that time...
Thanks for praying for him.

the cutest two girls: maman and dabba:
continually competing to look the best

soxna doctoring on the "mother that talks":
why not put alcohol on it? (just for you, soxna!)

we aren't suppose to play with dinner...right?:
the day before i left, i couldn't find any kids to play with...
because they were all watching the sheep being killed
for dinner behind the building.

compound where "my family" lives:
well the 8 of them, plus the baby, actually
only live in 2/3's of the building on the right

basse and aminata all dressed up for a wedding:
well it was more like a huge party and trust me,
we were underdressed compared to the Senegalese...
they sport some party makeup
